Status quo · late 2026

What has changed — and why it matters now

01

RAG is the baseline, not the product

Every assistant retrieves. The difference is retrieval quality — chunking, hybrid search, re-ranking, agentic query planning — and evaluation that proves it.

02

Agents act, so they need permissions

MCP-connected agents call tools and change systems. Scoped identities, approval gates and reversible actions are what separate automation from incidents.

03

Deterministic where it matters

Winning designs mix LLM reasoning with deterministic workflow engines, rules and validation — so outcomes are auditable.

How we approach it

Our method for AI Automation

01Process selectionVolume, variability and value; where judgement is needed vs where rules suffice.
02Knowledge designSource curation, chunking, metadata, access control, freshness pipeline.
03Retrieval strategyChoose the RAG pattern per use case; measure recall, precision and groundedness.
04Agent designTools, memory, planning, orchestration pattern, guardrails, human checkpoints.
05Evaluate & operateOffline evals, online monitoring, cost and latency budgets, drift and incident response.
In depth

RAG strategies, in depth

Naive RAG

Chunk → embed → top-k similarity → generate. Fast to build; fails on ambiguous queries, long documents and permissions.

Re-ranking RAG

Over-retrieve, then a cross-encoder or LLM re-ranker orders candidates by relevance. Large precision gain for modest latency.

Hybrid RAG

Dense vectors plus sparse/BM25 keyword search fused (RRF), with metadata filters — handles codes, names and exact terms embeddings miss.

Agentic RAG

An agent decomposes the question, plans retrievals across sources and tools, verifies and iterates. Best for multi-hop, multi-system questions.

GraphRAG & structured RAG

Knowledge graphs and text-to-SQL for relationships, aggregates and governed data.

Advanced patterns

Query rewriting, HyDE, parent-child chunking, contextual retrieval, semantic caching, citation enforcement.
